In the Southern Hemisphere Samhain is celebrated on 1 May when others in the north are celebrating Beltane. On 31 October most of society still celebrates a secular Halloween but the rituals most pagans do during that time are for Beltane, not Halloween. Most of the folks I know actually celebrate Halloween (just have parties, no rituals) and then celebrate Beltane ritually on 1 November, which is the first day of summer.
