How can I get my ps3 80gb model to play emulators?

how? i have people talk about linux but i dont know exactly what that does and all iwant todo is play n64 emulator ps2/ps1 emulator or maybe gamecube i dont know if this is possible but im 87% sure it is and also can someone feel me in on this whole linux for ps3 stuff thanks
