Need advice on wiring light switch in bathroom?

i am trying to change the light switches in my bathroom...it's three total. there is one red wire...lots of black ones...and the white ones are all twisted up with a cap on them(they were just sitting in the back of the box, not in use) so i am trying to figure out which wire goes where? i put one of the black wires with one of the red wires and that got the fan to work...but the other 2 lights are not working with black wires connected. one switch controls the fan, one a recessed light and one the vanity light. also, i have noticed that the light in my bedroom bathroom is not working either.
