Please anyone help me correct my mistakes.. , grammatical,, and other....?

The story “Everyday Use” by Alice Walker is a contemporary story. One aspect the author uses to show that the story was written in the late twentieth century is when Mama tells about her dream being on a TV program with Dee. She says, “There I meet a smiling, gray, sporty man like Johnny Carson who shakes my hand and tells me what a fine girl I have.” (Walker). Johnny Carson was an American television host and comedian, known as host of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson for 30 years (1962-92) (Wikipedia). Therefore; the story could not be written before 1962.
